Hello Everyone,
It’s been a whirlwind of a week on all fronts: lots of wildness at home, plus the launching of the paid version of the newsletter, oh, and the midterms?? Typing this all out has given me a surge of understanding: no wonder why I’m so tired.
Tired, and also delighted. I’m so glad so many of you have signed up for the paid version of the newsletter and I’m beyond excited to start populating this space with more fun, meandering, and experimental content. (Every time I post that word, a part of my soul dies… and yet, is there a better option? Please let me know!)
I couldn’t resist sending this one out as a final freebie, so if you’d like to see these every Friday, be sure to subscribe. And don’t forget, if you’re unable to swing a paid subscription, email me and I’ll comp you one, no questions asked. All subscribers on the list by next Wednesday will get a discount code for the Year Ahead Readings in the first subscribers-only post, FYI.
Now onto the actual reflections! Listen below for my pre-nap breakthrough on the Knight & King of Swords:
Tarot Moments
I did a nice, sprawling reading for myself about something I’ve been “mildly agonizing” about. A lot of the expected cards were there: The Knight of Wands (impatience!), the Three of Wands (enterprise!), the Two of Swords (indecision!). But luckily I was snapped out of my racing mind by the presence of The Empress, and this week her relaxed pose helped motivate me to simply stay in my lane and wait for things to come to me. None of the scurrying to and fro or retreating into total shutdown shown in these other cards. Just being with my self and… enjoying myself while waiting for the right outcome to unfold or arrive? Shocking. And helpful, too.
What I’m Reading
Tore through Hua Hsu’s memoir Stay True this week. A poignant and affecting look at a friendship that ended in a senseless act of violence, this book captured the intensity of youth and college in a way that really stuck with me. Not to mention how Hsu interweaves his evolving musical and intellectual tastes with his life in a way that felt very much like the Knight of Swords at its most positive: searching, earnest, and intellectually vigorous.
What I’m Listening To
Was delighted to see that the video for this song features tarot! (Also, Tim Bernardes plays almost all the instrumentation on this album, which is big The Magician card energy, IMO.)
Guiding Questions
Here’s what I’ll be pondering regarding the King of Swords:
What gives me the solidity I need to observe my thoughts neutrally? What practices? Routines? Values?
How can I find strength in saying “I don’t know”?
Please share any tarot reflections you may have in the comments below, and, most importantly, have a delightful weekend.
