We have a lovely synchronicity this week as we’re graced with another reading that is dominated by a single group in the minor Arcana. While last week we were focusing on the spiritual and emotional world of the cup suit, this week we're quite literally coming back down to earth into the world of pentacles. If last week felt tender, lovely and maybe a little personally challenging, this week makes things much more concrete and understandable.
It’s also highly likely that there is quite simply a shift in focus. Let yourself follow the current without too much analysis; overall, this is a wonderful time to get back to the basics and look at the foundation of your daily life: your practices, expenditures, routine, and your work. Having all of the same group of cards shows us that this energy is not only supported, but celebrated.
We begin things with the exploratory and enthusiastic Page of Pentacles, and while all Pages are about learning, interest, and natural curiosity, this one has the most follow-through. When thinking about pentacles, I always like to focus on what is real - what is here now and what we can reach out, touch, and change ourselves. If we’re going to embrace the Page of Pentacles’ derring-do, this is an open and enticing invitation to simply stick our hands into the clay of our lives and shape it however we see fit.
Because Pages represent burgeoning interests, this week is poised to be a time when new paths towards material stability, our daily life structure, and even ways of supporting ourselves become clear. If there’s something you’re wanting to explore, take this reading as a beautiful, bright green light to go ahead and do so. Follow whatever is intriguing you, network to your hearts content, talk to others about your plans, and see what you can learn from a position of openness and possibility.
Pentacles can sometimes be a ponderous group of cards, and we all know that money, material support, and stability are touchy subjects in our culture - especially in these times - so this week also gives us a lovely opening into some more ease and gentleness around these areas. Iif that’s not coming naturally, do what you can to foster this outlook for yourself by releasing expectations and remaining open-minded.
Now thankfully we’re not doing all of this alone, and I’m so happy to say that we have the Three of Pentacles as our central card urging us to reach out to others. Last week there was also a sense of camaraderie, and that is absolutely carrying over into this week’s reading, but is showing up in a more instrumental than emotional way. Look for the people who you align with and enjoy spending time with - these are the people with whom you can start making plans and enacting them moving forward.
If we’re going to be really straightforward with these cards, we could say that the Page of Pentacles represents us or another person with a singular and exciting new idea and that the Three of Pentacles shows a convergence of characters who are excited, willing and capable of enacting that idea and bringing it into reality. If that is the case for you, get excited and hone in on where you are ready to make some moves.
In this sense, the Page of Pentacles is very reassuring because it tells us that we do not need to know the overall plan and that, rather, this is a moment that is being led by curiosity and a sense of potential, not extra preparation and an ironclad plan. If we bring our best selves to the collaborative ground of the Three of Pentacles, the rest will follow. Look for people who are at the same level of experience or just a few steps ahead, but who are really willing and invested in making some changes.
This could happen in many areas of life - just look for where the collaboration is happening or feels like it could and dive in. Just feeding those areas with steady and consistent action will yield some exciting results.
Now, all of this is very rounded and steady, but the end of the week brings some exciting and noteworthy change. Our final card, The Wheel of Fortune, is very different yet has some similarities to the cards that come before. You may notice that we have a big circular theme here, and I’m really tickled by the progression of these pentacles cards into the chaotic, free-wheeling, and chance-based wheel of Fortune. Not only are these circles growing in size, they’re moving from the realm of the practical and into the world of powerful, Major Arcana archetypes.
This heightened state can be challenging for situations that start in the pentacle’s world of earth - the most stable of the deck. As you may guess, The Wheel of Fortune is a card that likes to turn things on their head, mix them up, and enthusiastically invite in a lot of new energy. That’s where Page of Pentacles and the open and energetic collaboration of the Three of Pentacles can help; these are the most amenable to the rambunctious instability of the wheel of Fortune. That’s to say, whatever plans we make this week, be ready for them to change. You can get then excited for whatever input the world at large has to offer.
It’s possible that we are going to be given some unexpected and unforeseen opportunities this week that may blow our preconceived plans and ideas out of the water, but eventually end up depositing us in a much more exciting and even helpful place. We’ve been dealing with the theme of change in our readings
for two months now, and The Wheel of Fortune gives us a very helpful moment to get out of our own heads. This is a card that illustrates how little power we have in the world, and if we approach this with a sense of possibility and, in the case of our reading, with some planning, excitement, and collaboration, quite a lot is actually possible.
Do what you can at the beginning of the week to hone in on what it is you’re trying to grow, to rally your co-creators around you, and then to open yourself up to whatever chance has in store. I also think that this final card gives us an intriguing portal into some new adventures. Similar to the aces, The Wheel of Fortune represents external forces - we do not have control over this change, but we can control our responses to whatever the turns of the wheel brings us. After all of these personally-demanding readings, this can be a welcome change and also just usher in some freshness that we may have been missing. So whatever change is in store for you at the end of the week, walk towards it with open arms and see where it takes you.
