Weekly Forecast for 7/7

We’re in the center of summer and I’m feeling a call to slow down. Not in a trite, optimizing way - slowness as a means to greater productivity in the immediate future - but in a murkier, more mysterious one - very Four of Cups meets The Hanged Man, if we’re going to use tarot-speak. This theme came up in our monthly reading, too, where our roster of minor arcana cards showed a uniquely flexible space, one where we can mosey around in the mystery and do some deep-level integration. Here, a lack of concrete goals is a strength, not a weakness.

So it should come as no surprise that we drew three cards that have been following us in recent readings. The past is coming into focus this week! And we’re being led by the fierce, free-thinking Page of Swords.

This page has been in the spotlight recently, appearing as the theme card for May. Look back to that month to remind yourself of the big issues and questions you were grappling with in new ways. The same energy is available to us now, only the conditions have changed. Because we’re backed by two powerhouses of tarot who’ve also been interwoven in recent readings, this spread instructs us to have faith in our intellect and reasoning, especially when it’s outside of the box and in the service of greater meaning.

When I look at these cards, I’m drawn to how the Page of Swords is looking to the left, the position of the past. So, too, do The Star and Strength. What do you want to better understand, even re-write about what you’ve been through? This week grants us a surprising opportunity to view things with the clear and unflinching eyes of the Page of Swords. It could be a time when your inner child is more vocal, when children serve as inspiration, or when a fresh perspective emerges with mysterious clarity. Take it all seriously, especially your sense of youthful possibility and bravery.

It’s likely that there’s some fog and confusion at the beginning of the week or an urge to protect an idea, plan, or viewpoint fiercely. This edginess is short-lived, especially if we heed the advice of The Star and seek comfort in regenerative practices and spirituality. A wide angle viewpoint will be helpful here; often, the Page of Swords can get overly fixated on minor details, harping on meaningless points or creating unnecessary conflicts. There’s certainly an aural of good, wholesome self-parenting to The Star this week, one that encourages us to nourish our intrepid, questioning Page of Swords - they have important work to do! - by providing safe places to land, rest, and consider next steps. Paying attention to your environment, dedicating time to pause and take in what is instead of leaping to what might be, and simply caring for your body and relationships will help settle the dust that’s been kicked up around this active card.

Questioning and reframing leads to healing that leads to strength: that’s the message of our reading, and it’s refreshing having one that’s so straightforward. Yet I’m also sensing a moment of culmination that might feel subtle at first but is, in fact, immensely important. Strength was our card of the year for 2024 and boy did we do a lot of work with this archetype! Seeing it as the final step this week in a sequence that looks like a transformation, the figure of the Page of Swords morphing into The Star and then Strength… it’s powerful! This week could very well be a time when complex, hard-won lessons are coming into their final form. The paper, now fully edited, is ready for submission.

I’m wondering, too, if the brave, questing, and often non-traditional intellect of the Pages of Swords was the missing ingredient. In this case, it’s no wonder that the magnitude of this moment would appear subtle; skills and viewpoints that seem new to us are what have given us the ability to make the finishing touches to this life chapter. We don’t have to do much here other than appreciate the work we’ve done to make space for this growth and take our new efforts seriously.

Having Strength at the end of the week also suggests that we might be called to vocalize or debut some lesson or plan. The peaceful privacy of The Star is short-lived, and we have very real lion-like humanity to contend with. But after 2024 I think we’re more than ready for it. Look for where you feel ready to get down to work, even (or especially) if it feels messy, uncertain, or premature. With these cards behind us, so much can start to unfurl.

EMBRACE

  • Continuing to express yourself in new ways, ask quesitons (a. Lot.), look at the world from a new perspective

  • Messages from your inner child. How can you champion them, fulfill their wishes, and truly listen to what they have to say?

  • Gifting yourself pockets of time to let your mind rove and explore your curiosities

  • Rituals and rhythms that soothe you - meditation, walks, good sleep, journaling. Use your Star-powers!

  • Calls to start speaking more, showing up in the world, acting on your new understanding

  • Reframing your past with brevity, clarity, and courage

AVOID

  • Letting in extraneous or undermining information and influences

  • Returning to old beliefs or thought patterns out of fear

  • Not taking yourself seriously! Especially your new ideas, intuitions, and plans - this week has a trickster quality in that the most powerful ideas will seem deceptively simple

  • Neglecting your health, life balance, and personal practices

  • Inaction and excessive shyness. Messy presence is better than solitary perfection!
